Claude Monet working on his Boat.jpg  Oscar-Claude Monet often painted side by side with other artists, this was true with Pierre-Auguste Renoir and it is the same with Edouard Manet. Oscar-Claude Monet would serve as an inspiration to Edouard Manet. The former instilling the conviction of painting on the spot and mentoring the latter on the use of a lighter palette in his paintings. Claude Monet in his Studio Boat (1874) was painted by Edouard Manet with the resolve to work with old masters as opposed to contemporary impressionists at that time. The painting of outdoors was captured by Edouard Manet where he painted with the depth of nature as opposed to painting with flat backdrops in his studio. This oil painting which depicts Oscar-Claude Monet working with his wife Camille Monet beside him is a testament to the influence of the old master. The palettes are clearly lighter; the strokes are smaller and more refined. Edouard Manet also incorporated some of Oscar-Claude Monet's techniques in this oil painting, in particular the use of water as a uniting agent in the painting. The water serves to connect the main object which is the Studio Boat and the background of structures. There is also a gradual effect in terms of blurring the objects and focusing on the main character which is Oscar-Claude Monet. Even the image of Camille Monet is blurred so as not to detract from the main object of Oscar-Claude Monet.
