Montemartre near the Upper Mill

Vincent Van Gogh has produced all of his works, which included 864 paintings and 1,200 drawings and prints, within a decade. Van Gogh has done most of his paintings outdoors and had a special talent for capturing the subtleties of nighttime light and shadow. Van Gogh has sold only one painting, composed in his more than a decade artistic career, in his lifetime and has endured as one of the last century's most influential artists. Vincent Von Gogh and his brother Thro lived in Montmartre and that time it was still semi-rural area. There were farmlands allotment gardens; three of the celebrated windmills were still standing. The windmills were a favorite destination for day-trippers from the city. The largest mill, Le Blute-Fin, had a pavement café affording a magnificent view over Paris; at the top of the mill, there was platform built for viewing the surroundings. There were many catering establishments and Dancing halls circling the mill. In Montmartre near the Upper Mill, Vincent Van Gogh has stressed on the rustic charm of the area, showing people working in their allotments.
